Father Robert F. Drinan

(1920-2007)

Father Drinan epitomized the activist priest. He taught law at Georgetown, served as dean of Boston College Law School, and was the first Roman Catholic priest elected to serve in the U.S. Congress, where he spent 10 years as House representative for Massachusetts. He contributed to law reviews, wrote books, and belonged to numerous human rights committees. He was also president of Americans for Democratic Action and helped found the Lawyers Alliance for Nuclear Arms Control and National Interreligious Task Force on Soviet Jewry.
