Honorable Max Cleland
Max Cleland is a war hero and former public servant who has worked on behalf of veterans and the disabled. He holds a bachelor's degree from Stetson University and a master's degree from Emory, but it was his service in Vietnam that opened his eyes to the world. Coming home as a triple amputee stirred him to help others. He served for several years in the Georgia state legislature, before becoming head of the Veterans Administration under Jimmy Carter. Afterwards, he became Georgia secretary of state and won a seat in the Senate. He now teaches classes at American University in Washington, D.C.
