Ms. Kathy Mattea

(1959 - )

Kathy Mattea is a country music star, song writer, and performer whose words are etched easily on human hearts. She has also embraced many causes, including AIDS. She has won two Grammys, two CMAs for Female Vocalist of the Year, and one CMA Single of the Year. She made history in country music when she discussed AIDS at the 1992 telecast of the CMAS. Soon afterward, she organized Red Hot & Country, an album that raised funds for AIDS research and education. Her ongoing fight against AIDS and poverty has earned her a Harvard AIDS Leadership Award and a Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award.
