Hon. Carl Albert

(1908-2000)

Carl Albert represented Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives for 30 years, six of them as Speaker of the House. He embraced President Johnson's dream of a "Great Society" by supporting public housing and federal aid to education. The passage of the Medicare Bill in 1965 owed much to his influence and planning.
